Admittedly I was a pain in the butt patron at Zasu, showing up 30 minutes late for my reservation (stupid time zones!) and asking for on the fly drink pairings for my meal. Despite all this I was treated very well and given everything I asked. All in all a great night for me.
While the food was excellent, I was thoroughly impressed by the cocktail and wine pairings I requested for each dish, based on my preferences of Old Fashioneds and red wine.
Glazed Pork belly
Crispy, deep flavor, glazed with apricot agrodolce on top of a pistou.
Soup Du Jour (Watermelon Gazpacho)
Gazpacho with jumbo blue crap with gold shrimp, avocado, fried tortilla strips.
Tasty, the other options would have been salads.
Fish of the Day (Red Grouper)
Sauteed grouper with beech mushrooms, swiss chard, roasted turnips. Sauce: Preserved kumquat bernaise
Braised Beef Short Rib
On top of haricots verts, the tamarand demi-glace gave the short rib a nice deep flavor. The roasted sunchoke made it a slightly healthier dish than your typical meat and potatoes. I really liked this dish.
Pineapple Upside Down Cake
I've never been a dessert person and shrink away from anything excessively sweet. This was a good finish to the meal.
